setup
Sign in, install the agent skills and pick your defaults in one guided step
squirrel setup is the first thing to run after installing. It walks through three steps and ends with the command for your first audit.
squirrel setupWhat it does
- Sign in (optional). Opens your browser to sign in to squirrelscan, which unlocks cloud audits, publishing and sharing. Signed out, local audits cost nothing and never need an account, so you can skip this step. If you are already signed in, setup says who as and moves on.
- Agent skills. Installs the
squirrelscanandaudit-websiteskills into~/.claude/skillsand~/.agents/skillsso Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents know how to run audits and fix what they find. The default answer is yes. If the skills are already there, setup says so and moves on. - Updates. Keeps squirrel and its skills up to date automatically. If auto-update is already on, there is nothing to ask. If you turned it off, setup only asks, and never switches it back on by itself. The skills follow auto-update unless you set
skills_auto_updatetofalse, in which case setup says they are left out. A copy of squirrel not installed by the squirrelscan installer (npm, a package manager, a dev build) cannot update itself, and setup tells you how to update it instead.
Setup is safe to run again at any time: every step reports what is already done instead of repeating it.
Options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
-y, --yes | Accept every default without asking. Sign-in is skipped, since it needs a browser; run squirrel auth login later. |
--dry-run | Show what setup would do without changing anything. |
Without an interactive terminal (CI, a script, an agent’s shell), setup behaves as if --yes was passed. Press Ctrl+C at any question to stop.
